Once in a while you come across a person who you can have long and easy conversations with. Have lingering walks with. A person whose hands you don’t need to hold – because something more powerful joins you. Connects you. And touches you.

Once in a while you come across a person who understands what you say. What you are about to say. What you have just said. And what you intended to say.

Once in a while you come across a person who is with you. Even when that person is elsewhere, and is without you.

Once in a while you come across someone you look forward to meeting. Everyday. Even after you have just met that person and said goodbye.

Once in a while you come across a person who will give you the advice that you don’t like, but you won’t have otherwise.

Once in a while you come across a person whose every action you find so endearing – even that person’s follies and foibles.

Once in a while you come across a person who makes you feel that the world is a much better place than you thought it was, till you met that person.

Once in a while comes a person who gives purpose to your life and life to your purpose.

The visit is temporary – the memories of those moments linger. They waft in and out at the most unexpected of moments. And they bring back a wistfulness. A sadness. Not when these memories waft in, but when they slowly, like cotton-wool clouds, waft out. You close your eyes and say to that person - thank you for having stepped into my life...
