We are all exposed to toxins, directly or indirectly. But we are not just talking of physical toxins.

If one really wants a complete detox, one has to not only look at the physical aspects ut also look at mental level detoxification. Every moment, what you choose to think about plays a bigger role in your life’s outcomes than you imagined or will realize.

If you have the right mindset and perspective, you will see things falling into place. Sooner or later you will find yourself on the right track. That’s how powerful your mental state is. Sadly, many people ignore this aspect. They take this for granted and fill their lives with mental toxins. These toxins hold them back and drag them down. These toxins keep them from achieving what they wanted to achieve and living a life they deserve. Here are 3 reasons why you should go in for a mental detox program.

Reason 1 – Say Goodbye To The Past

The past is the past. Whatever happened happened some time ago. Whether its yesterday or some time ago, maybe 10 years ago, it does not matter. No matter how awful you feel or how pumped up you are right now, you cant change the past. Those things happened and cannot be reversed.

Your father left the family. You got slapped often by your mom. Your girlfriend betrayed you. Your boyfriend dumped you. Those things happened and are irreversible. What you can change is how you interpret the past. Instead of your past dictating you around and getting the better of you, you can start by changing how you interpret it and deal with it. Start changing how you respond to it. Start changing how you process that information.

You no longer have to feel trapped or caged in. Nor do you have to feel little, voiceless or weak. You have the opportunity to turn things around. Its not easy to do so. Nor will it happen overnight. But it can happen. You can make it happen. Because it’s a choice. A choice that you make. And you ought to make. Only you. Not your family. Nor your friends. Only you.

Reason 2 – You gain perspective

When you are very focused on things that you think are important in your life, you end up going nowhere. You just move around in circles. You put in a lot of effort and invest time and energy but you eventually land up back to square one. This is not an accident. It is to be expected. This is because you don’t seem to have a plan.

This is because you are trying to get from point A to point B without a map or a compass. By compass I mean a plan. When you let go of mental toxins, you become clearer in the head and start appreciating the value of direction in your life. And very soon you start choosing a definite path that right.

You are no longer held by thing that did hold you. This is because your map is in the present moment. All that matters to you is what is happening right now. You can now focus on the now and the events that are happening at the present moment. Your will power urges you to think of the present. You are now able to direct the present to a future you want to see.

Reason 3 – Mental detox leads to self love

One has to love oneself. So do you. You have to love yourself. A third person, even if it is your partner in order for you to love others, you need to love yourself first. And similarly, for you to respect others, you need to respect yourself first. This implies that you need to understand self respect.

You can only give what you possess. If you have little respect for yourself, how can you hope to respect others. This also applies to love. When you do a mental detox, you manage to reclaim your ability to love yourself. You no longer remain a people pleaser. Nor do you try and live upto others and their expectations. Other people are no longer your frame of reference and you lead your life on your own terms.

Instead you focus on whats important to you and whats important to reclaim ownership over your life. That is real power. It helps you reclaim your identity which in turn leads to self love. When this happens, you are able to truly love others. And this love for others is real. Not formula driven love nor stereotypical or artificial. We finally get to know the meaning of true love – which is sacrifice.

In other words, you are willing to let go of your needs to make someone else happy. Sacrifice is real love and not all of us have that trait. Most of us have toxins that eat away that self love and we replace it with self gratification. We become self absorbed. Just like a $3 bill is a fake, so is the self gratification. Stop feeding yourself with emotional counterfeits.
